The Truckee River region is the traditional homeland of the Wa She Shu (Washoe) and Numu (Northern Paiute) people, who have cared for the waters and lands around Da Ow (Wa She Shu word for Lake Tahoe) and Kooyooe Panunadu ( Numu word for Pyramid Lake) for many thousands of years.
